President's Welcome
Dear Sorors, Pearls, and Friends of Alpha Kappa Alpha — welcome to the home of the Alpha Lambda Chapter. For over three decades, our chapter has been a living testament to what it means to lead with grace, serve with purpose, and rise by lifting others.
Whether you are a prospective member, an Ivy Beyond the Wall soror returning to sisterhood, or a community partner seeking a partner in progress — you have found your people. Our work is rooted in the belief that culture and merit are not ideals to aspire to; they are the standard by which we walk every day.
We invite you to be part of something timeless. Pink and green isn't just a color — it is a calling.
Our Legacy
On a winter morning in 1908, nine visionary women at Howard University changed history forever. Led by Ethel Hedgemon Lyle, they founded Alpha Kappa Alpha — the first Greek-letter sorority established by Black college women — laying a cornerstone of leadership, sisterhood, and service that has never moved.
"By Culture and By Merit"
Motto · Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. · Est. 1908The Alpha Lambda Chapter was chartered in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991, planting the sorority's signature ivy in the heart of the South. In the decades since, our chapter has awarded hundreds of scholarships, delivered tens of thousands of community service hours, and championed the advancement of women and youth across the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. We are proud heirs of a tradition that began with nine women and a single conviction: that excellence is not given — it is earned, embodied, and extended to the next generation.
National Programs
Guided by AKA's national programming platform, the Alpha Lambda Chapter delivers focused initiatives that uplift women, families, and communities across every season of life.
Education
We champion access to Historically Black Colleges and Universities through scholarship awards, campus tours, application workshops, and direct partnerships with HBCU recruitment offices — ensuring Black students see higher education as a right, not a privilege.
Healthcare
Our chapter hosts annual health screenings, mental wellness summits, and breast cancer awareness campaigns — addressing the disproportionate health burdens carried by Black women with compassion, data, and direct action.
Economic Empowerment
Through financial literacy workshops, small-business incubation partnerships, and investment education, we equip women and families to build wealth that outlasts a single generation — turning income into legacy.
Family & Youth
From after-school mentoring and summer enrichment to parent support networks and community resource fairs, we invest in the full ecosystem of the family — because a strong family is the foundation of a strong community.

Membership
Alpha Kappa Alpha welcomes college-enrolled women of academic standing through a rigorous and meaningful intake process. We also welcome graduate sorors transferring their membership to the Alpha Lambda Chapter.
Our sorors are scholars, healers, executives, entrepreneurs, artists, and advocates. The thread that binds us is a shared commitment to excellence and service — not in spite of who we are, but because of it.
Ivy Beyond the Wall
Life moves quickly — and sometimes sorority dues slip through the cracks. If you are a financial member who has lapsed, we welcome you home with open arms. Reclamation is a simple process, and we are here to help you every step of the way.
Returning sorors receive a warm welcome at our first chapter meeting and are immediately eligible to participate in all programs and voting. Your pearls never expire.
Reclaim TodayScholarship & Giving
The Alpha Lambda Chapter Educational Foundation awards annual scholarships to deserving young women in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Our recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, community service, leadership, and financial need — the living embodiment of our motto.
Since 1994, we have disbursed over $480,000 in scholarship funds. Every dollar donated directly supports a young woman's education. No contribution is too small; every gift is a vote of confidence in the future.
